Approximately 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM, unless otherwise stated in your class instructions.

What Do I Need to Bring?

Firearms

Bring up to 3 eligible handguns you intend to have listed on your renewed CCW.

Each firearm must meet the requirements of your issuing agency and applicable California ownership and registration requirements.

Holsters

Bring a quality, firearm-specific holster that allows safe drawing and reholstering.

We recommend quality Kydex IWB or OWB holsters.

SERPA-style holsters are not permitted.

Bring an appropriate holster for each firearm you intend to use.

Magazines

We recommend 3 magazines for your primary firearm.

Two magazines can generally be workable, but three are recommended for the best training experience.

Ammunition

Plan on approximately:

Primary firearm — 200 rounds
Each additional firearm — 50 rounds

Brass ammunition is required. No steel-core ammunition.

Personal Equipment

Bring:

Yes. This is Medic Up’s complete 8-hour California CCW renewal training program for eligible permit holders.

What happens if my CCW expires before I renew?

Missing the applicable renewal deadline can affect your ability to continue as a renewal applicant and may require additional steps or a new application, depending on the circumstances and issuing agency.

Begin your renewal process early and follow the current instructions provided by your issuing agency.

How many firearms can I qualify with?

You may qualify with up to 3 eligible firearms during your Medic Up renewal course.

There is no additional Medic Up qualification fee for additional listed firearms during this course.

Do I have to qualify with every firearm?

Yes. You must successfully qualify with each firearm you intend to have listed on your renewed CCW, subject to your issuing agency’s requirements.

Can I add a new firearm during my renewal?

Yes, renewal can be an appropriate time to qualify with a firearm you want listed on your renewed permit.

The exact procedure depends on your issuing agency. Follow the current firearm and renewal instructions provided by LASD, LAPD, or your respective issuing agency.

Does my firearm have to be registered to me?

Firearms being listed on your CCW must meet applicable California ownership and registration requirements and the requirements of your issuing agency.

Make sure the make, model, caliber, and serial number information for each firearm is accurate.

Can I use a red-dot optic?

Yes. Red-dot-equipped pistols may be used during Medic Up training provided the firearm and optic are safe and compliant with applicable requirements.

Your optic should be securely mounted and properly zeroed before class.

Can I use a weapon-mounted light?

Yes. Weapon-mounted lights are permitted during Medic Up training provided the firearm and equipment can be safely operated.

Adding a weapon-mounted light by itself does not require a separate Medic Up firearm qualification.

What kind of holster do I need?

Bring a quality, firearm-specific holster suitable for safe drawing and reholstering.

Quality Kydex IWB and OWB holsters are recommended.

SERPA-style holsters are not permitted.

I’m not confident with my firearm. Can I still take the renewal course?

Our instructors provide firearms coaching and skill refinement throughout the live-fire portion of training.

However, renewal students should already be capable of safely operating their firearms and following all range commands.

If you’re concerned about your current skill level, contact Medic Up before your class so we can help determine whether additional training would benefit you.

How much ammunition should I bring?

Bring approximately 200 rounds for your primary firearm and 50 rounds for each additional firearm.

Renewing your CCW keeps your training current, but preparation continues after class.

Medic Up students can also learn about Firearms Legal Protection (FLP) and legal protection options available to responsible firearm owners following a defensive incident.

Refund Policy

No refunds after 5 days from purchase.

Rescheduling

Students who miss their scheduled training date are subject to an $85 rescheduling fee and class availability.

Arrive on Time

Do not arrive late.

The firearm safety briefing is a required part of training.

Students who arrive after the required safety briefing has been completed may not be permitted to participate and may be required to reschedule.

Range Safety

All students must follow Medic Up instructor commands and range safety procedures at all times.

Unsafe firearm handling or failure to follow instructor commands may result in removal from training.
