Start with our complete California SB 948 guide for the broader requirements.

Are valid CCW holders exempt?

Yes. A person with a valid California concealed carry license is exempt from the new FSC training requirement established by SB 948.

What if I recently completed CCW training?

A person who completed qualifying California initial or renewal CCW training under Penal Code section 26165 within the previous three years is also exempt from the new FSC training requirement.

Why does this matter?

California firearm owners who already participate in the CCW training system may not need to complete a separate FSC training course during the applicable exemption period. Eligibility should be verified against current California DOJ requirements when the law is implemented.
