LASD or LAPD Applicant?
Wait until your issuing agency authorizes or instructs you to complete firearms training.
Taking your initial CCW training too early may result in your training documentation not being accepted.
Medic Up Consulting is first-responder owned, and our CCW instructor cadre includes active-duty and retired law enforcement professionals.
We don’t believe CCW training should consist of shooting a qualification, receiving a certificate, and going home.
Our students receive professional firearms coaching, California legal instruction, defensive decision-making concepts, safe concealed-carry instruction, and emergency medical training focused on the realities and responsibilities of carrying a firearm.

Your Two-Day CCW Course
Day 1 — Live Fire Training & Qualification

Your live-fire training includes:

Our instructors work directly with students throughout the range portion of the course.
The goal isn’t simply to pass your qualification. We want you to become a safer and more capable shooter.
Day 2 — California CCW Classroom Training

Classroom instruction includes:

Upon successful completion of the required instruction and firearm qualification, students receive their applicable CCW training documentation.
What Do I Need to Bring?
Firearms
Bring up to 3 eligible handguns you intend to list on your CCW.
Each firearm must meet the requirements of your issuing agency and applicable California law.
Firearms being listed on a CCW must meet applicable ownership and registration requirements.
Holsters
A quality, firearm-specific holster is required.
We recommend a quality Kydex IWB or OWB holster that allows safe drawing and reholstering.
SERPA-style holsters are not permitted.
Bring an appropriate holster for each firearm you intend to use.
Magazines
We recommend 3 magazines for your primary firearm.
Two magazines can generally be workable, but three are recommended for the best training experience.
Brass ammunition is required. No steel-core ammunition.

16-Hour CCW Training FAQ
Is this the complete California 16-hour initial CCW course?
Yes. This is Medic Up’s complete 16-hour initial California CCW training program for eligible applicants.
The course includes required instruction, live-fire firearms training, and firearm qualification.
Is Medic Up training available for LASD applicants?
Yes. Medic Up provides CCW firearms training for Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department applicants.
LASD initial applicants should follow the CCW Unit’s instructions regarding when they are authorized to complete firearms training.
Is Medic Up training available for LAPD applicants?
Yes. Medic Up provides CCW firearms training for Los Angeles Police Department applicants.
LAPD initial applicants should follow LAPD’s instructions and wait until authorized to complete their required firearms training.
Is this course available for San Bernardino and Riverside County applicants?
Medic Up provides initial CCW training for eligible applicants from Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Riverside, and participating surrounding jurisdictions.
Issuing-agency requirements can change. Always follow the current instructions provided by your issuing agency.
How many firearms can I qualify with?
You may qualify with up to 3 eligible firearms during your 16-hour Medic Up course.
There is no additional Medic Up qualification fee for your additional listed firearms during this course.
Do I have to qualify with every firearm?
Yes. You must successfully qualify with each firearm you intend to have listed on your permit, subject to your issuing agency’s requirements.
Does my firearm have to be registered to me?
Firearms being listed on your CCW must meet the ownership and registration requirements of your issuing agency and California law.
Make sure the make, model, caliber, and serial number information for each firearm is accurate.
Can I use a red-dot optic?
Yes. Red-dot-equipped pistols may be used during Medic Up training provided the firearm and optic are safe and compliant with applicable requirements.
Your optic should be securely mounted and properly zeroed before arriving for training.
Can I use a weapon-mounted light?
Yes. Weapon-mounted lights are permitted during Medic Up training provided the firearm and equipment can be safely operated.
Adding a weapon-mounted light by itself does not require a separate Medic Up firearm qualification.
What kind of holster do I need?
Bring a quality, firearm-specific holster suitable for safe drawing and reholstering.
Quality Kydex IWB and OWB holsters are recommended.

I’m a newer shooter. Can I take the course?
Yes. Our instructors provide firearms coaching throughout the live-fire portion of the course.
However, students must be capable of safely operating their firearm and following all range commands.
If you have little or no handgun experience, contact Medic Up before registering. We can help determine whether introductory firearms training would benefit you before attending the CCW course.
How much ammunition should I bring?
Bring approximately 200 rounds for your primary firearm and 50 rounds for each additional firearm.
Brass ammunition is required. No steel-core ammunition.

Registered students receive applicable reporting instructions for their class.
When will I receive my CCW training documentation?
Your applicable training documentation is issued after you successfully complete the required training and firearm qualification.
Follow your issuing agency’s current instructions for submitting your completed training documents.

After Your CCW Training
Completing your CCW course prepares you to carry responsibly—but training is only one part of being prepared.
Medic Up students can also learn about Firearms Legal Protection (FLP) and legal protection options designed for responsible firearm owners following a defensive incident.

Refund Policy
No refunds after 5 days from purchase.
Rescheduling
Students who miss their scheduled training date are subject to an $85 rescheduling fee and class availability.
Arrive on Time
Do not arrive late.
The firearm safety briefing is a required part of training. Students who arrive after the required safety briefing has been completed may not be permitted to participate and may be required to reschedule.
Range Safety
All students must follow Medic Up instructor commands and range safety procedures at all times.
Unsafe firearm handling or failure to follow instructor commands may result in removal from training.
